Hi. I've had to reinstall my Windows 10 which means my PC now has a new name. I've tinkered with the PC's Network and Sharing so that the X10 is part of the Homegroup and is 'Allowed' to share. I've ensured that the PC folder for music is Shared. But on the X10, when I try to Add Share, I'm getting nowhere. When I choose 'Add Share'/Server the screen shows 'COCKTAIL AUDIO' and 'WORKGROUP'. Sadly, selecting WORKGROUP gives me a 'Fail to scan server!' error.

What to do?? My sincere thanks if you can help - this is driving me nuts...

What are you trying to do?
Can you see the X10 in the network directory with other devices?
Try accessing the the x10 from the PC with the IP or host name . eg X10 (unless you have changed it).
Also i think by default you have to enable stuff on WIN 10, check:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

Hi. I'm trying to set my X10 up as it used to be, so that I can import songs from my PC.
My PC can see the X10 (I have the X10 mapped as a network drive).
When I select Add Share on the X10, it easily finds my PC (Server).
However, whether I select my own username or 'guest', when I then select 'Share', it says 'Fail to scan share'
The PC folder I wish to use is a 'shared' one and I believe I've set everything up correctly - see the attached picture.
If you or anyone else can identify the problem, I'll be very grateful.

I'm still struggling so here's my story, step by step:
My PC and X10 were in harmony until yesterday when I had to do a reinstall of my Windows 10.
My PC has 3 HDD's: C (for the operating system only), E and F. My music files are on E and I have a folder which I believe is properly set up for sharing:

My PC's 'Network and Sharing' is also set up correctly, I think:
https://imgur.com/a/ABQ6S

And this is my attempt to 'Add Share' on the X10:
https://imgur.com/a/dMjSF

It seems I've fixed the problem in picture 2) above (where the X10 was still finding the ID I had with the 'old' PC): the X10 still had the previous 'Share' listed and I've now deleted it. The X10 will find my PC (Server) OK but the only User Name it finds is 'guest' - it doesn't show an ID for myself (it should, shouldn't it?)

I really hope someone can help me get to the bottom of this. Thanks in advance.

@dortmunder - got it.
1. It could be the permission details (of the music folder not specified).
Also check the permission of the folder, i would enable complete read/write for all users.
The music folder isn't shown or created!
Enabling a rendered is a different protocol function.
As you can see the DUNE folder has no restrictions.
You need to CREATE a directory eg - PCname/Music/"My collection" (then as a PC Admin set the permission).

2. If you can see the x10 why not dump the songs you want from the pc to the hdd1 folder? - plan B

Looks like a permission issue; WIN 10 can be a bit fidgety - try rebooting the PC to retain settings.

Hello Admin. Yes, I was always aware of 'Plan B' but I'd prefer to keep the method I've been used to all these years.

The folder I want to use for sharing is set up like this:
https://imgur.com/a/DZvDI
I don't think there's any more I can do to make it shareable...

“The music folder isn't shown or created!” What do you mean by that?
“Enabling a rendered is a different protocol function.” What is 'enabling a rendered'?
“You need to CREATE a directory eg – Pcname/..." Isn't that just creating a new folder on a drive? That's what I've done.
“then as a PC Admin set the permission”. Only I use the PC and it shouldn't be necessary to use the Admin account to make a folder shared.

Going back to the process of 'Add Share' on the X10: after it identifies my Desktop in the 'Server' field, I then select the User Name field and the X10 shows 'guest'. Am I correct in thinking that it should also show the name I have as the PC owner?

And when I click the 'Share' field, is that when a list of all shared folders SHOULD appear?

If you have any other suggestions to help me out, I'd welcome them!

Also, if anyone else reading this uses Windows 10 with their X10 (or even an X30), would you be willing to create a new 'share' and walk me through exactly how you did it? Thank you so much.

Dortmunder, i can't even see any shared directory.
Go to "Network" to see all the shared folders 1st, to double check.
I don't use the x10 anymore (only Pro X100) but your setup is not clear !!!
You are pointing it back to the x10 mapped directory you mentioned in the post "E:cocktail..."? (Could be wrong :) )

1. Create a folder & right click to set the permissions etc
See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaEdZBuspec
or
See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z8yW1JHkHc

2. Check to see shared folder on your pc (network/pc name/directory)
3. Access the workgroup on the cocktail (Best to reboot PC before doing this)
4. And add it on the x10

Don't forget to enable: discovery, file sharing, public folder sharing, media sharing...& disable password access as it could be the issue (you can add it later).
The PC is not allowing access!

I only use the x-9 & x100 myself but i think this video below is the process:
With most shared best to check on the pc network.
if you do not have that icon, do this:
(right-click desktop/personalise/click "change desktop icon"/tick network)

Video: up to 4 minutes.

Thanks guys. I'm happy that my system is set up correctly:

Yesterday, I was able to Add Share and it worked all day but, this morning, selecting the share just gives me 'Up Dir'. Being able to create the Share yesterday can only have been pure luck... From what I've read elsewhere, such sharing problems seem to have been caused by a recent Windows 10 update. Bit of a bitch but what can you do...

It's unlikely but it could be a corrupted home network setting on your PC.

Try following this to start from scratch-scroll down the page till you get to the section headed "Fix issues with the homegroup in Windows 10".
