1. Is your firmware ver 2.7 ?
2. Have you tested it with a USB external drive? (does support that too ...)
So you can determine whether it is the drive or your metadata connection.

If it is ripping then it could be a metadata or fingerprinting algorithm is trying to make up the data unless the disc is unstable or the optical drive needs to be checked as you said -- but then it wouldn't rip any cds if it's faulty :?

Happy Easter !!! :)

No worries,
I am quite sure there was a post with some images but i can't find them.
Here is another post on the matter:

Actually you do not need to initiate the app, it will pick up whichever cd drive is active (with inserted CD) & in one of the USB ports.
There are many types ...simple usb types are better as they work fine. Since we all use optical driveless laptops, always good to have them around to install programs, ripping etc.

Thanks for the update

I have tried 2 x usb drives and although they spin up when cd inserted they don’t start ripping

I am on firmware 2.7 manually upgraded as per forum

What message do you get on the ripper app?
Use the USB ver 2 port not USB ver 3 & see ?
What brand is the external drive, does it require power or not?
Insert the external ripper, boot the device & then insert a CD & see ...

Liteon is good ...but does your external drive use an extra power or just USB powered?
Try switching ports, could be that the OS is allocating the USB ports internally.
If your liteon uses an extra power make sure it is connected.

...can you still rip with the main cd drive?
Perhaps you didn't update the 2.7 ver properly or error during the update???
Unless you have a driver issue with these cd drives or perhaps those aren't linux supported?
Is your internet "slow"?
Try this, insert a CD in the external drive boot with the cd still inserted & see if the pro x100 will rip it (after restart).
Contact support, they are always helpful, if all fails.
