This works the same for USB drives, network space/folders, external HDD, X10 ......................all

From the X10 MENU:
1. Go to BROWSER
2. Select the HDD1 or USB drives (do not access it, just place the cursor on the icon )
3. Press info (i) on the remote control
4. The hard drive size will be displayed.

Good tips these - thanks.
Is there any way of checking how many albums or songs are on the HDD? - I can't seem to find out

Not In the MUSIC DB, but if you have the songs in a folder at the HDD1 section:
To check information on folder, place cursor on the folder and press INFO key.
