I have an X10 with a 1TB hard drive, just under half full. Over the last few months this disk makes an awful racket on power up, grinding away as if a bearing has dirt in it; after a while it goes quiet, especially once I start searching the DB, though it sometimes carries on even then. The drive has always been 'noisy' in the mechanical sense - when there's nothing playing, or between tracks, I can hear the disk spinning. So, I would like to replace this disk with another, quieter one - or even an SSD.
What I would like guidance on, is how to copy the contents of the disk to the new one - is it simply a matter of file copying via a PC, or are there hidden elements that need to be transferred? Is there a function within the X10 for this?
I assume that once the contents are copied, it would simply be a matter of swapping the disks?

Just backup & restore onto a new HDD.
You could have a noisy fan, the HDD can't be that noisy :)
I don't have an x10, now using the pro x100, so i can't really tell you how to check the fan.
The fan could be rubbing the back case or might have some trapped dirt.

It may well be the fan - how do you open the case to replace it?
